Daisy, is correct about getting some kind of meter. There are very inexpensive ones and then there are ones that are digital with alarms. Both types just plug into a wall outlet. I prefer the digital ones with alarms since you can have adequate voltage some parts of the day and low voltage others as other people start powering up the AC. The digital ones with audible alarms will alert you to the situation so that you don't run the AC under low voltage without knowing it. The one that I use is made by Automated Engineering Corp, Mode 20020 and last time I checked they ran about $70. The simple meter ones cost under $20, but the one I mentioned monitors voltage, frequency and ground faults and warns you, so it can be plugged into an outlet that is out of the way.
