On the inside of the lock cylinder there is a round plate with a bump on
it. This is supposed to move in a slot cut in the locking bar. The
lock turns OK, but the slot is too long, so it doesn't lock or unlock
fully, and in addition the bump can get caught on the edge of the slot
and the key won't move at all.

If the guts of the new lock are identical to the old one, and the
problem is just sloppy machining, then I might be able to parts switch.

I'm waiting to here from Out-of-Doors Mart to see what they have to say
for their product.

For another $50 I can get a real one.

Since the old one still works, I'm thinking if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Or you might be able to put the old lock cylinder in the new assembly.

Oh, by the way, where can I get some of that window blind cord?

Once you know what to call it, and what size your blinds would like, I
have found it at big sewing or interior fabric stores too.
If the string is broken, be sure that where the string passes through
the aluminum horizontal bars is protected by a little nylon bushing that
should snap in there, sometimes you can turn them, but I usually replace
them if I have the shade apart anyway. Getting the damn things down is
the worst part.

that would be good, but I know you would take one look at this lock and
throw up your hands, roll your eyes and say "Send the junk back!"
