Re: [A/S] A/C unit

Help!

I have a 1995 34 foot Classic with original A/C unit. The unit has a heat
strip, a panel with green lights and can be set to "auto" which allows the
A/C to shut down when it reaches the set temp. I have water dripping from
the unit, so went out and blew out the line. Still had water dripping so
took off the inside shroud and metal housing. I pulled off the line from
the pan and blew it out with a compressor. Still water in the pan. Went
into the pan with a wire and tried to get whatever was holding the water
out, and seemed successful. I reassembled the unit and then turned on the
breaker and the unit to discover that I have no lights on the panel. I
seem to have power to the panel or the thermostat on the unit, but no
lights. Could the board of the thermostat be bad? Anyone else ever have
this problem and what did you do to solve the mystery?

Thank

Hi Chris,

Since no one else has answered your question I'll give it a go. First are you sure it's an A/C with a heater strip and not a heat pump? I though most Airstreams came with heat pumps by the mid 90s. I don't know what to make of your "green lights"…. are they on the thermostat? Anyway, I don't think your drain problem has anything to do with this problem. Have you tried disconnecting the thermostat (most are connected with an RJ type connector like a phone line) and reconnecting it. Cycling the circuit barker off and on again? If it's like mine I think there is an RJ connector on the A/C end also…. could you have inadvertently disconnected it? If it's the digital type thermostat you might try cleaning the push buttons with some contact cleaner (from Radio Shack). I have had a problem with my buttons becoming inoperative but a good cleaning restored them to full function.
