Re: [A/S] Re: GFI Breaker

Nobody has addressed the question of the HotRod - could it be
defective? We assume it is not because it is only a few months old.
But with your history of when the GFCI trips, I am betting the GFCI
is good, doing exactly what it is designed to do, and the HotRod (or
it's installation) is the problem.

NOTE: If the HotRod is bad, replacing the GFCI with one that is
simply less sensitive could mask the problem, making it look like the
original GFCI was bad and the HotRod was OK.

FOR TECHIES ONLY: Perhaps an inexpensive digital VOM could be used
to see if the HotRod is OK - a leakage would show up as reduced
resistance between the HotRod plug's ground prong (the round one) and
either or the other two (blade) prongs. Might have to be hot to show
the problem. Any resistance below a million ohms is suspect, 100,000
is in the range that might occasionally trip the GFCI (giving about 1
milliampere leakage current), and 10,000 (about 10 milliamperes
current) is pretty sure to trip it and definitely shock a person.
