I mailed this earlier, but it didn't seem to go through.

Daisy, thanks for your comments. I have to agree with your statement, "no
matter what hitch you have it needs to be properly set up and balanced for
the tow-trailer combination. Sadly, many trailer dealers are happy to send
you out on the roads without doing this, along with assuring you that your
present vehicle will tow just fine."

An Airstream dealer in Michigan set up my hitch when I bought my new 1999
Safari. Walt in Ocala reset the hitch and arms properly while I was in
there for service a year or so later. I was very pleased with my dual cam
hitch and my extended cab, full sized pick ups. The first truck was a 350 ci
and it couldn't take the mountains, but otherwise did fine. My 2500 HD
Duramax didn't know the mountains were there. I was always well pleased with
the trailers performance with the dual cam hitch.

As you implied, none of the hitches will work properly if not set up
correctly. People on this list will give advice on setting up any of the
hitches properly.

As an aside, last weekend someone parked a trailer rig on the street
beside our house. The trailer was a box trailer about 30 feet long designed for
hauling cars. The truck was a 1/2 ton GM pickup. He had no equalizing
bars and no sway control. The back of the truck sat very low and the trailer
tongue was low, also. The chains were not crossed, but he did have a
break away switch. I would have hated to be behind him on the Interstate. A
proper hitch that is not correctly set up will be not much better than this
fellow's set up.

My 2 cents!

Sam
