Tenerife Attractions: Why Go to Tenerife?

Tenerife Attractions: Why Go to Tenerife? | For years, Europeans, typically the Brits and Germans, have flocked to Tenerife every year, buying up apartments, villas and timeshares and enjoying tanning themselves year round on the beaches. Apart from the great weather, since it is summer basically all year round in the Canary Islands, I've never understood the massive appeal to the island. Just what is it about Tenerife that draws them in? I wanted to know why it is constantly so popular with tourists, so I did a little first hand research to find out what sets Tenerife apart. What attractions draw people to the island and what can you get up to when you're there: here's my list!

Attraction to the Isle of Eternal Summer

First, and undoubtedly the most important draw to the island is it's tourism infrastructure. Tenerife is build around tourists through and through and there are thousands of great places to rent or hotels to stay in. Hotels in Canary Islands are also generally a little cheaper than places in mainland Spain or the Balearic Islands, so you can get a lot more for your buck. Tourism may be a core part of the island and its economy, but when I was there, I never felt too overcome by it. The hotels are built to a high standard and the range of amenities and services was impressive. I never felt I was there as just a 'tourist', but rather, as a guest. What else?

Apart from the huge range of restaurants, bars and hotels available, I was most impressed by the diversity of the island. Simultaneously, it is a hotbed of geological interest with live volcanoes and rocks you can snorkel around that have been here far longer than you or I, and at the same time, it's like Blackpool with sun. On the other hand, Tenerife is one of the world's best spots for stargazing (something I tried up a mountain there and was genuinely blown away by) but it is also one of the best places in the world (fact, they did a survey and everything) to get a tan… Whatever you're looking for in a holiday, I found that Tenerife could accommodate.

You might be thinking, or shouting at your screen, but other countries can offer me the same things. What is the good thing about Tenerife? Well, put simply, Tenerife offers everything other countries can, but it does it all within a few miles. It's a fairly small island that you can drive across in a short time, so within one journey you can find all of the following:

  • Great hotels, bars, nightclubs and world-class, restaurants serving local delicacies.
  • Adventure sports like parasailing, skydiving, deep sea diving, quad biking, etc.
  • Traditionally Spanish architecture, shopping and settlements across the island.
  • Great connections to the UK and the rest of Europe with more and more low cost airlines adding flights all the time.
  • New hotels springing up all the time, driving down costs. I stayed at the Barceló Hotels&Resorts and had a great time in great surroundings.

There are good and bad points about every holiday destination, but if you want to find out for yourself, hop on a plane! Easyjet fly to Tenerife daily now, so what are you waiting for?!
