Hi Anne,
I'm glad to see your question, there is plenty of good advice here on
the list to use as a guide simply by asking... And best thing I ever
did was switch to SOLAR ten years ago, expensive yes, however well worth
the very low maintenance system by not having to real with the generator
any more...
As to how to advise you to the value of what is proposed by the SOLAR
vendor, I'd need to know what the breakdown details of his pricing is,
how much wattage, how many panels, what type of charge controller, and
what sort of batteries and battery capacity is he quoting?
For example, on my trailer I have a 420 watt SOLAR system with four
panels, two AGM deep cycle batteries of 110 amphour each, and a MPPT
charge controller capable of 45 amps. Total value of components alone
is about $2500 which would allow for a $500 installation fee, haedware
and cabling... If that is comparable to what he is quoting, it sounds
reasonable to me...
