That's so weird... mine looked wrong to me yesterday.....
I realized the little bobber inside the square receiver wasn't there...
I found it lying on the floor of the square receiver....
The pin that it pivots on was there too so I reinstalled it but am now
thinking I should get a cotter pin to hold it in place.
I'll get one tomorrow....
What didn't look right to you?

In my case that "little bobber thingy" was not touching the three slots in the top. And the orange part was not parallel to the black part that moves. When they took it apart one of the top bearings fell out in pieces and both of the black links (the arms that move) were bent. The service guy said that it looked like I must have hit something really hard but I didn't. I think it's the rough roads even though I slow down when I encounter bad pavement.
If you take it to the factory and remove it and reinstall it yourself there will be no charge. I chose to pay them to remove and reinstall to save time and not get all greasy. I also bought their "emergency kit" of spare parts (pins, grease fittings and such) and a new OCL wrench (I lost mine years ago and just used a 15/16 wrench). The people were very pleasant and helpful though they did forget to put out an extension cord for my over night stay. No one said anything about my repainting the orange part gray to match the Airstream or the fact that my serial number tag (just a stick-on paper thing) was missing.
After almost ten years and well over a 100,000 miles I have no complaints. I had to replace one of the grease fittings (they also hold the spring bars in place) several years ago but the company sent me a new pair for free. And one of the struts got bent and was also replaced for free (at Roger Williams Airstream dealership in Ft. Worth) several years ago.
