Carrie, below is the explanation given at this site:
The 2000i companion essentially has the parallel kit built into it. You just plug in two cables. I have a Honda 2000i and a Honda 2000i companion. The companion has the 30 amp recepticle built in. The companion makes it easier because you don't have to attach the parallel kit only the cables.
I suppose the frequencies have to be synchronized to operate properly. With two 2000i, you will need the parallel kit.

I understand that, but what is up with the 2000i companion on the Honda website? I had a salesman tell me I needed that one to parallel with the 2000i we have in MN? I thought as long as you had two 2000i you were fine to run them together. One did not need to be this 2000i companion?CarrieFairbanks AK2006 Clamshell #1711 "Krush"

Two generators run in parallel gives twice the current output capability as one, the same as connecting two batteries in parallel.Jerry J----- Original Message -----From: familybakerfiveSent: Sunday, October 31, 2010 6:34 PMSubject: [tabtrailers] Re: Honda 2000i generatorI don't know, since we don't own it. However, I have seen pictures with them hooked together and being sold in combo. What is that for? Why two?

At the very beginning it died (choke open) and I didn't even know until I realized my crock pot wasn't on. Would love to buy one of those, but they're a tad pricey and I wouldn't have occasion to use it that much.
