Hi gang,
A couple of things to throw into the mix.
Trailer Life recently tested the big three with diesels. Towed mileage
was o/a 11 mpg. So the thought comes to mind when we are bragging about
our setups and fuel mileage lets include towing mpg along with slick
mileage.
So my '02 GMC 8.1L gets 9-10 towing and 12 slick. On gas. Around here
diesel runs .50-.60 more per gallon. And of course this year on Fords
and GMC products you have to add their urea additive that increases per
gallon costs to ???
SAE is introducing a standardize tow rating test effective in 2013.
Rather than each manufacturer congering up their own combinations of
weight, environmental, etc etc there will be one set of circumstances to
provide a uniform rating. Toyota has already adopted the standard. As a
result their 1/2 ton truck tow ratings dropped slightly. (e.g. 10,800 to
10,000)
