I had this floor plan when my kids were little and I made bunk beds
above the main beds for them. I didn't attach a rail to the side
wall, but perhaps one of your previous owners put in bunk beds and needed it.

In an early model AS I remember having a light back there that I
think was supposed to let me know if there was a grounding or
polarity problem (that might shock me if I touched the trailer). I
don't think they have that gadget anymore. Seems like the owners
manual would mention it.

If it is the original converter it probably doesn't work anymore. The
caps fail and it loses regulation. I would recommend one of the
modern "smart" replacements.
