David,
I didn't know you could over-fill a 1Lb bottle. Everything I read says you can only get them 1/2 to 2/3 full at best using the 20Lb tank\gravity method. I was completely unaware of any laws regarding transport of re-filled 1Lb LP bottles!!
I figured you could only refill once or twice before seal became suspect and always wondered about traveling through changing altitudes/pressures with them.
After reading your post and several others on the web I think I'll pass on refilling them. I only have one device that requires them- a heater -and it gets very little use so I'll just buy the 1-pounders as I need them like Sandra suggested.
Recycling the bottles is a big issue for me. I haven't found anyone who will take them here. I'll look a little harder after everyone gets back to work next week.
Thanks!
Jay
