Looking at your pictures, it appears that those snaps that were screwed into the side were screwed down so hard that it created an air pocket around it. Those snaps may also have cracked the sealed caulk line just under the anodized aluminum corner channel just enough to allow water to seep behind there. We installed an awning rail up against that corner channel clear across the top of the trailer, from corner handle to corner handle and applied about 50 small screws per side with plenty of marine sealant and thus far haven't had any issues (3 years now). Maybe that is something that you could do to your trailer to reinforce the top corner channel.
