[A/S] New Airstream Resort to Open in May

The WBCCI Utah Unit invites you to join us in Escalante, UT May 5 - 8 for
the Grand Opening of the newest Airstream resort. The Shooting Star
Drive-In will accommodate 18 units with hookups, a drycamp area and also
features Airstreams as themed accommodations and as the ConcessionAir snack
bar at the drive-in. Each night the tops come off the convertibles as you
snuggle in to watch films and, of course, a cartoon or newsreel.

Of course, there's plenty to do while the sun's up, too! The resort is on
the edges of the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument and the Dixie
National Forest just off Utah's route 12, the Journey Through Time Scenic
Byway, one of the most beautiful roads in America. Nearby are the Escalante
Petrified Forest State Park, Box Death Hollow Wilderness, Phipps Death
Hollow Outstanding Natural Area and Hells Backbone Road. Sounds like a good
thing we've got the sanctuary of the ConsessionAir and fellow Airstreamers
in the evenings! Those who wish to extend their weekend will be passing
near Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion National Parks
and Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon also beckon.

The theme trailers ("Ann's Cabana" - Ann-Margaret, "The Kid's Hideout" -
Robert Redford, "The Duke" - John Wayne; "Mrs. Rutledge's Room" - Lauren
Bacall, "Rick's Place" - Humphrey Bogart; "Sugar's Shack" - Marilyn Monroe;
"Cary's Caravan" - Cary Grant, "Holly's Hut" - Audrey Hepburn and more are
planned) are available for those who choose not to bring their own this time
($179/nite). Check out their website at www.shootingstardrive-in.com.
Typically, the Utah Unit potlucks snacks, appetizers and desserts on arrival
Thursday evening, a potluck meal one night, a restaurant meal one night,
breakfast fixin's are provided for two days - men mangling the morning meal
one day and a continental breakfast on Sunday. Full hookups $40/nite, W/E
$30/nite, drycamp $20/nite, rally fee is $20/unit. For more information and
reservations contact me off-list.

If you can bring your own trailer this place could be cool. However, if you stay in one of thiers expect to be disappointed. $179 gets you ice cold showers, cold nights, poor bedding, spotty tv, brown drinking water, coffee, and a movie. Telling the owner wont help, I dont think he works with his hands much couldn't turn on the heat. This is not a luxury experience as the websight boast. Its a very expensive uncomfortable rugged one. The trailer we stayed in was called "Suger Shack" with a "Marilyn Monroe" theme. All that means is they hung a few pictures of her and left a book of her. Thats it. So unless you can bring your own trailer here, save your money and go down the street where for $50 you can have a comfortable room with a view and breakfast. Just sayin. As cool and funky as the concept is, and how beautiful the location, the execution of it is a fail. Epic. Fail.
