In the cases I was thinking about, it still has an effect, it's just not
noticed as much in the tow vehicle if you have a big truck and nice
hitch. An out of balance trailer (whether due to design or misloading),
one with bad springs, or frame issues, or one with substandard or low
tires, etc still have an effect on the sidewalls of the trailer tires
(leading to heating and probably blown out tires eventually) or on
twisting the frame when the tail is trying to wag to dog, to pick up
someone else's example, until it eventually damages the trailer frame or
body, even though you're still able to pull it down the road.
I wasn't talking about the little swerves you get meeting a truck or
going over a crooked bridge lip; those are a momentary problem that
could turn ugly if you couldn't stop them, but not the sort of long term
issues it sounded like we were talking about in the beginning related to
a particular trailer model or trailer design.
