Re: [tabtrailers] Re: iPad and iPad II

Remember, with an iPad you have Bluetooth connectivity. So not only can you use headphones and external speakers, but they can be wireless.  Bluetooth technology has gotten very dependable so a speaker the size of 2 packs of cigarettes puts out amazing sound.

Ella, I love that!

Hey, when you watch movies are you using headphones you've plugged into the iPad? Can you buy small speakers to attach too?

We use the SnapShot Postcard App to send her a picture once a week; My pictures are on my iPAD, and the app lets me select one and put it on a "real" postcard -- flip it over and add an address, return address and a lengthy message. Then it prints and mails the postcard via snail-mail within 2 days -- and charges my account. It costs about $2.00 a postcard, but is worth the $ for Grandma to have such a convenient picture and message sent directly to her home -- without me every leaving my IPAD!!!!! Ella

My scattered family is constantly emailing pics or putting them on Facebook, saying show this to mom/grandma (heaven forbid anyone print pix anymore AND actually mail them). While it's not that big of a deal, I have to open the pic, save to my HD in a new album, pack up the laptop, unpack at mom's, boot and show her.

I can show her other things on the web, too, that I talk about but she doesn't understand because she can't "see" it. I don't have those capabilities on my phone, and the screen is too small for her anyway...

If you boondock very much then, as a West Coaster, I would question the availability of 3g. 4g doesn't really exist yet despite what they market. The body that defines 3g and 4g standards "redefined" 4g so that today's faster speeds could be called 4g rather than call it 3g+.

I play games on my notebook although I'll grant you I pick and choose based on performance. Netflix is available. Email is simple. And, depending on what you buy, it's way cheaper. You can spend up to 50% less than an Ipad.

In 3 to 4 years there will be a lot of Ipads either going in the trash or being sent back to the factory for a battery replacement which won't be cheap not to mention a couple of weeks out of service. It's a form of planned obsolescence.

As in all endeavors, look for the strays on the edges of the herd. Evaluate their arguments and then make the choice that's right for you.
