I don't have and haven't found high transmission temperatures to be an issue. I assume it's the extra heavy-duty design of the FJ's off-road mechanicals that make additional cooling unnecessary. Although it's never happened to me, it sounds like you found an auto salesman that knows something about what he sells. I've towed with the FJ in the Rockies mid-summer w/o any issues. The Tow Pkg. does not include one, and the Toyota Salesman says it is not needed, but I am skeptical, especially about towing in California's Sierra Nevada. Thanks for your input, cindy
