F D Roosevelt state park in Pine Mountain is a nice park, with Roosevelt's "little white house" and museum nearby.
There's a Corps of Engineers campsite called R SHAEFER HEARD that I haven't been to before, but it seems convenient to I-85 near the AL-GA border.
In East Atlanta, Stone Mountain has a beautiful campsite, although a little on the pricey side. The sculpture at Stone Mountain is actually larger than Mount Rushmore, although the faces are smaller.
My preference when driving to I-95 and points North is to take I-85, then in Charlotte go North on I-77 to I-81 North and join I-95 further North, the section south of Baltimore gets too congested and is too ugly for my taste. I-77 and I-81 are much more scenic and close to the Blue Ridge parkway and Shenandoah drive.
If you do go through DC, there'a a nice, and also convenient park just South of DC called Pohick Bay Regional Park. We usually stay there when we visit family near DC. They have electric hookups but you need to fill up your water as you come in, bring it with you, or bring jugs to top off at the central faucets.

I will take I-65 from Mobile and I-85 from Montgomery until I'll meet I-95 south of Richmond, VA. We have to be in Charlotte, NC next Friday or Saturday. I'm planning the trip and was wandering if you can recommend us one campground around Atlanta, near the I-85. On our way, I'm thinking to stop first at Chewacla SP, near Auburn. Any suggestion in the Atlanta area and also for Charlotte area?
