[tabtrailers] Re: Protection from Electrical Surges and Faulty Power

Hillary,
If you have the means, you may want to upgrade to TRC's Surge Guard that also protects against high and low voltage. It also protects against higher spikes than the model you linked. I recently got the 30 amp model ( http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/product/portable-surge-guard/2279 ) for our Scotty while it was on sale at Camping World for $247+ tax.
Some prefer the "hard wired" version, where the surge guard is wired into your trailer's wiring. I chose the portable model that plugs into your shore cable after reading a couple of stories of the units getting fried after a lightening strike and melting down after a small fire as a result of the strike. If that's going to happen, I'd rather have it all happen OUTSIDE my trailer! :-)
As for other protection, just make sure your battery is in good working condition and check on it throughout the camping season. Electrical guru Jerry Jones will likely chime in (if he hasn't already by the time I send this!) with his thoughts that are much more educated than mine.

I've heard these threats can cause significant damage to electrical systems and expensive repair bills. Is a surge protector considered a "must-have" item for you? They are pricey, but I'm willing to invest if necessary. Are there any alternatives to this? http://www.trci.net/products/surge-guard/hardwires-portables/30a-portable-wground-fault
