Anne,
Your concern is well placed. Airstream was very early in their learning
curve with slide out's in the trailer. As I recall, and I may be wrong,
but "hand crank" was not an option.
When I was still at the dealership we had a customer with a first year
34' slide that got stuck in Wyoming with the slide partially in/out.
Airstream had to send technicians from Ohio to fix it.

I checked the website for specs but it only had the 28' coach, and the one I may be looking at is supposed to be a 30' . Anyone want to save me a trip? :-) I like the idea of the extra room if I am at a campsite with electricity, but I worry I will be stuck trying to hand-crank it in during a windstorm sometime. But I worry too much.
