[tabtrailers] Re: Commercial scales

 

Nancy,
it is painless. drive onto the scale with tow vehicle on front pad and trailer on second pad (there are three pads for the big rigs), get out of tow vehicle (the button to call the clerk is located high for the truckers), push button to call clerk, he will activate scale, drive off to park and go inside to get your ticket.
I would not unhook the trailer, just get a quick weight. the ticket will say front or steering axel (tow vehicle), drive axel (trailer). go home and do the tounge weight on a bath scale as described earlier. add the trailer weight to the tounge weight and you have the gross trailer weight.
the clerk at the truck stop does not care about your trailer, most likely he cannot see it in his camera - they are aimed for the 18 wheelers.
