I will check the lock again...and will try "rotate" on the lifting. 
I did get the trailer detached by removing the receiver pin and pulling away VERY GENTLY. )
Have my AVALANCHE back again
...and I have noticed that a lot of owners have a number with their name. What does the number signify?

This may sound dumb, but are you sure there's nothing in the "lock hole"? The reason I ask is that the lock is not solid. It could possibly be in place and you would think it's not?
Mine is a brass color.
