Hi folks,
I'm embarking on a project I should have tackled years ago, to
reinsulate the wall where the furnace vent is.
When the new furnace was installed, they had to change the venting
system, and replace a section of the outer skin, about an 18" square
piece. Inside, behind the furnace, the inner skin was cut away too, so
there is a pretty big area behind the furnace that is just one layer of
aluminum.
I'm thinking I will put fiberglass there, and cover it with some thin
aluminum flashing, but I'm wondering what to do where the vent pipes
run. Can I just lay the pink fiberglass on it or do I need an airspace
around it?
By the way, I also finally installed a Hott Rod electric heating element
in my water heater. It was very easy. I didn't install the switch,
because I may need to snake a cord to the post if I run too many
heaters. Now I heat the water on the CG's nickle !
