Jon,
Not knowing where you are located(general vicinity for storage
temperature purposes) or what your trailer has for a 12 VDC charging
system, there are variables that need to be known in order to provide
you with an appropriate answer.
My recommendation is to leave the batteries in place in the trailer and
if your trailer charger does not provide a "maintenance" charge level,
purchase a small maintenance charger. Do not remove the batteries and
place them in a warm place. The reason for this, lead acid batteries no
matter what type, are a chemical process and to keep them in the best
condition and get the best life out of them, you want to minimize the on
going chemical reaction as much as possible.
When storing lead acid batteries, keep them fully charged all the time
and cooler the better short of freezing them. This minimizes the
chemical reaction and will extend the life of the batteries. And, often,
especially if you are keeping AC power to the trailer while in storage,
this can be best done with the batteries right in place in the trailer.
If your trailer has one of the newer power converter/chargers installed,
other than checking periodically to be sure acid level in the batteries
is where it should be, and that the charger is doing its job properly,
there is little you can do to improve the situation.
If your trailer battery charger is an older type without the advanced
high tech charger maintenance function, I use and recommend:
BatteryMINDer Battery Charger / Maintainer with Desulphator — 12 Volt
2/4/8 Amp, Model# 12248
