Same here, my Ford E-250 extended WB full of plywood, cabinets, etc with
460 tows better than a typical 250 pick-up in my experience, and I like
sitting right up front and up high, on the other hand 10MPG on a good
day isn't so much fun. On the other hand, my E-150 passenger van with
5.0 and Chevy G-10 cargo van with 5.7 both tend to bounce too much
crossing bridges, and feel a little squirrely braking in wet pavement or
loose gravel., so a longer wheelbase, heavier walled tires, big engine,
and more weight make the same differences as in a pick-up.
The only downside for me is the forward position takes a little getting
used to when it comes to parking/backing up after I've been using a truck.
I'm really surprised vans aren't the common tow vehicle of choice due to
the convenience of being able to just walk back to the back if for no
other reason.
