Re: [A/S] Re: Tow vehicle advice needed

I had heard horror stories about those years of Ford diesels, and have been following the new engine to see how it does. I had a salesman tell me it was really a Cummins, but have not heard that anywhere else. Any reports on the 2011's now that they are over a year out?

BTW, I love my '07 Texas-built Tundra and I've really put it through the paces this trip (coming up on 3 mos of mostly travel on the western roads). Other than the shorting A/S cable that got the dashboard looking like a video game, it's been very reliable. I use the tow/haul mode going down steep hills and passes, and I don't drive that fast anyway so I might not drive any faster even with a beefier truck. I would love a new Ford diesel tricked out with all the creature comforts. Or a Chevy/GMC, but the Tundra is paid for. I can live with a lot of inconvenience with a suitable truck that doesn't have payments due.

I'm pulling a '99 27' Safari with a lot of gear. I don't pass by too many gas stations, but so far, (knock on wood), I'm still tooling along. I have truck envy when I see big bad trucks pulling campers but I get over it. The select-gear for having manual control over gears when descending, plus the tow/haul mode give me the basics, and it will just have to do for now.

I've heard good things about the new 2011 Ford 150. Camped next to a guy who traded in his 250 for this one and is towing a big box trailer (30') and hauls it all over CO , WY and MT. He loves it.
