Re: [A/S] Re: Tow vehicle advice needed

I'll add my experience too. Started towing with a 90 Surburban 350. Did
okay, but was only towing a 22'. Had to downshift on big hills but always
made it home. Traded in '98 up to a
Dodge 2500 quad cab 4X4 diesel and loved the truck. Drove it 10 years,
upgraded to a 28' and never had a problem or felt underpowered. Put 130K on
the truck but could only get 12 MPG towing and 15 solo. Upgraded to a 31'
Airstream (hand down gift from parents) and got a new 09 Dodge 2500 4X4
diesel in early 09. Has the large blue tec engine, engine brake and all of
the other "must haves" with the new trucks. Already have 50K on the truck
and I've never driven a nicer truck. Except for the steepest hills I don't
even have to go out of overdrive. Towing mileage is 13 - 14 and have gotten
20 MPG solo. I agree with Hunter, you can never have enough truck. I
totally recommend a diesel, quad cab (or whatever the brand calls it) and I
prefer a long bed. Makes for a very long rig and prevents getting into some
back in spots, but it gives us a lot of options when not towing.
