I figured I'd remove the door and drill/bush the hinge back to where it will accept the .250" hinge pin. The problem is I can 't get the pin to come out. I have removed the spiral pin so that isn't stopping it. I believe the hinge itself is cast aluminum and the pin is stainless. Possibly 45 years of dissimilar metal has "fused" these together...I don't know. Has anyone on this list had sucess in remiving a 'stuck' hinge pin. I need so advice to get this out.

Barry,

If the problem is the corrosion between the two dissimilar metals,
aluminum and stainless, locking the pin, get some "Liquid Wrench" in the
small squeeze can, (not the aerosol spray), apply to the hinge & pin at
each section of the joint. Let soak for several hours and then apply a
gentle heat to the hinge. It doesn't take much heat, probably a couple
hundred degrees will do... Then a bit of tapping to drive the pin up
should work...

This is a method I learned many years ago while working in a career in
Oceanography where stainless screws are commonly used to hold aluminum
parts together that are then subjected to long periods of immersion in
salt water. Screws get locked in aluminum to the point of twisting the
heads off when trying to remove them and this method of using Liquid
Wrench and heat would get the screw intact out every time without
damaging the parts.
