RE: [A/S] Squarestream

Yes, we have submitted photos to Fred's vintage Airstream website. You can
go to 1982 and scroll down for the 24' one.

You are correct, it has two different Vin numbers...one is for the Chevy
engine (the one the title matches) and the other is for the P30 Chassis. It
is the P30 Chassis number that Airstream recognizes..so that number matches
almost everything except it is not a center bath..it is a rear bath..maybe
the guy or gal stamping the numbers that day was asleep at the wheel.

Anyway, she passed the CA smog test yesterday and now we just need a peace
officer to verify the VIN and she will be fully licensed...It was not easy
getting a stripped of all smog equipment replaced for the 1982 engine..can't
wait to see how fuel efficient she is.

I have a copy of the floor plans for the 1979 and it shows a 24' MH rear
bath with 2 couches (one on each side that make into a double bed)...the
1982 floor plans do not seem to show a 24' and the brochure that is in the
MH gives specs for the 28' and 31' motor homes. Our 24' has a 34 gal gas
tank...we now have a newer gas tank..but the sender is not giving a correct
tank reading..It has taken since the middle of November to get her this
far..they test drove her on the freeway and they report she has a lot of get
up and go..they got her up to 80 mph...not that I ever will...

Motorhomes can be a challenge to identify their model year "as a
motorhome". Often the manufacturer brings in a number of chassis and
then builds on them as needed. It is very common to find the chassis VIN
for one year and the motorhome VIN for the next year.

Then of course different states have different rules for which VIN they
want for registration and/or smog testing.

Another challenge comes up when a unit, motorhome or travel trailer sits
on a dealers lot for to long. More often than most folks realize the
year the coach is sold and registered does not always match the year of
the VIN.

When every there is a question of the age of the RV the coach VIN not
the chassis VIN determines it.

You can look at http://www.airstream.com/service/serial-numbers/ to see
what the factory uses to determine year/models.

The history I have claims that 1979 was the last year of Argosy
motorhome production. It was also the first year of Airstream
motorhomes. It was also the only year that an Airstream motorhome was
available both painted and unpainted.

It is entirely possible Airstream built a one off 24'. If someone really
wanted one and was willing to pay the price they would/will do it.
Airstream has a commercial division that does custom coaches of all
sorts. They are the group that built the NASA astronaut transporters.

Is this your coach on Fred's Motorhome Archvies website?
