After my experience, I would agree with Ed, just be sure the "local
shop" is run by knowledgeable experienced people and deals regularly
with the system provider you choose and stocks that equipment.

Or as Hunter says, "Radio Shack" is a possibility... I'd add, "That's
for the more adventurous of us with a modicum of technical skill &
talent"...

My problem with local installers, I explored that and found there is no
such shop on the Cape and it meant a 100 mile or more trip so the listed
"local installers" for either company were not very excited about coming
to me when they found out where I was located out in the sand dunes. I
was equally unexcited about towing my trailer to their shop to do
something I knew I could do myself and I'd still have to assemble,
install, and aim the antenna which is probably the most difficult part
of the project. Neither shop stocked the Dish Network gear, it would
have to be ordered and I'd have to wait until they might have someone in
my area to have it installed. At that time, the "tailgater" package with
automatic antenna was not offered and unless I wanted to go to a third
party vendor and spend big bucks, I decided until I had a system up and
running for a 30 day trial period, I'd not spend $750-$1300 for an
automatic antenna. So, I assembled and installed the standard included
"you aim it" erector set type antenna. And it works great... In the
spring I do plan to get the "Tailgater" antenna to replace this one when
the weather warms up and I will be thinking about traveling.

Talks with the local installers ended up being just another argument for
do it myself. And using the 800 numbers did not bring me much success
until I was transferred to a Dish Network tech support person who
advised me to call Bill at www.Sadoun.com. That was the only successful
800 number call to either Sat TV company that was fruitful...
