I go with this option-----If you're looking for a humane method to discourage mice from infiltrating your home, you may want to give peppermint oil a try. Mice are naturally repelled by the scent of peppermint oil -- it simply isn't a scent that appeals to their strong sense of smell. Peppermint oil is easy to administer using cheap and widely available cotton balls. It's important to select a high-quality and pure grade of peppermint oil for best results.

Linda,
I'm stymied to read your comment. I'm a hardcore believer in Bounce as
a rodent preventative simply because it works!!!.
In the fall here on the Cape, we get a bumper crop of Poke Berries and
the rodents love them and used to haul them into the trailer and in the
spring, I'd find gooey masses of mice nests stained a dark purple with
poke berry juice. They make a real mess as the poke berry juice dries
leaving a thick stain. Not only would it be mice nests, but a number of
the low drawers and upper cabinets would have the purple residue in a
splotchy about 4" across. I suspect those locations were where they had
a stash and would come to for a meal.
Since I've started putting bounce sheets around, I've never seen
evidence (droppings?) of little critters in the trailer nor have I had
to clean up a single poke berry mess.
I'm a firm believer in Bounce!!! Its the only thing I've ever tried
that works this well... Now if I could just find something that works
that well on the blasted poke berries!
