Silicone is a great product but not for a lap joint. It is used in most commercial window applications to seal joints they are gaps between extrusion butt joints. It will stretch between two pieces as they expand or contract but if the silicone is placed to a third surface such as a window attachemet member under the frame it will eventually tear away from one side or the other.
The commercial grades would probably work for a few years but then you are unable to remove it without potential damage to the trailer skin.
