Charged it back up, but should leaving just the switch on (pump not cycling) drain the battery in less than 8 hours? Or do I have an electrical issue? This was not the first time this has happened. I need to make a big sign over the door "water pump OFF?". This is a new pump and battery ~2 years old in a 1969 overlander land yacht 27'.

If the pump isn't pumping then it isn't drawing on the battery. The
little indicator light (if you have one) shouldn't drain the battery.

Take the battery to anywhere that sells batteries and they will test it
for you to be sure it is OK. Depending on the type of battery it is,
you may need to give it a drink or at least check its water levels.

Also, if you have the original Univolt converter charger, it will ruin a
battery in short order because it doesn't have the brains to taper the
charge down and ends up boiling the battery. It is a good idea to
replace the noisy and inefficient Univolt with a newer smarter type.

If the battery is good, then you have an electrical drain somewhere.
