Re: [A/S] Re: water heater help

Personally I opted for the electronic ignition. I've replaced three water
heaters in Airstreams, all with electronic ignition. Uses less propane
without the constant pilot light, doesn't have the heat which is generated
by the pilot and no flame in the rig unless it is actually heating water. I
like the new ones that have use electric or gas to heat the water. Rarely
use propane now unless we are boondocking. Never have a problem with enough
hot water and we not using any propane. $$$ savings.

Since you don't have a old round bowen, replacement is pretty straight
forward as others have mentioned. I did find on our '68 the new heater
wouldnt' fit the old hole properly and I had to have a shroud made to go
over the gap between the new heater and the body. Not an easy task as it
was at the rear of the trailer and had to have taper and curve under the
trailer. Used cardboard to build and had a local metal shop make it. I
wanted aluminum but they ended up using stainless so they could form and
weld it easier. The '77 was an easy replacement as it fit perfectly in the
opening and all of the attaching points lined up.
