I can reach tech by phone but it requires a lot of waiting and I can't seem to get to them by email, it bounces. Anybody have any suggestions? Daisy, have you put one of these it in your AS?

Hi Polly, yes I did. I had no such problem. I was very careful not to
let the old fan or the new one hang by the wires.
I assume you mean the little fuse on the fan itself is blowing, not the
fuse for the whole circuit. Something is making it heat up. If there
is a short in the old wiring, as Paula suggested, that would do it, but
it would more likely blow the whole circuit I would think.
If the tech is correct, then the reverse switch must be shorting
somehow, ie the two wires are touching where they are bare metal, or
touching some other metal. I think this is kind of a long shot.
Here's what I would do.
From the inside, take down the trim bezel, take off the screen, take
out the screw that holds on the knob that raises the lid and then the
knob. Take out the 4 screws and let the face plate hang down. You
should be able to see all the wires now. Make sure they are all OK, ie
no places where the insulation is rubbed off, that all connections are
tidy and secure. Since we jiggle our trailers down the road, it's
important that electrical connections be solid and tight, you should be
able to pull gently on them. And yes, look at the reverse switch to see
if it is sitting in its seat and that the wires are not crossed. ( this
must have happened before.)
Does the fuse blow immediately when you turn the fan on? Does the fan
turn freely? Does the fan motor sound happy?
The classic mistake on this installation is to pinch wires between two
metal things, the skin and a rib, or best of all, to drive one of the
attaching screws through a wire.
If you can see nothing wrong, you will need someone who knows how to
measure impedance with a meter. That way you can tell if the
electricity is escaping somewhere in the roof before it even gets to the
fan. Or you can wire up a 12v light to the fan circuit to see if it is
happy.
Fantastic Fan folks will replace the fan for free if you can find
nothing wrong with your installation.
Let us know what you find!
