Marty,
Originally Airstream put a label inside a pantry or closet door with the
VIN and loading data, GCWR, GWR etc.
The VIN on the curbside A frame should have been complete with 17
digits. It may be covered with paint that you will have to remove to see it.
There should be a data plate on the roadside just above the lower trim
strip at the front edge of the lower metal sheet. (I hope that makes sense).
The original decal may still be available from Airstream through a dealer.
Because your coach had the urethane finish on it care should be taken
before trying any chemical removal. I am familiar with using heat (from
hair dryer for example) and removing the residuals with a product such
as Goo Gone. If you think you will need to scrape off residuals be sure
to use a plastic scrapper not metal.

I can take her to the local AAA office and save a trip to the DMV and/or CHP if I can find two complete VIN ID's. I Can only find one on the Federal label. There is a partial on an outside label near the door and stamped on the tongue. But CA requires the complete VIN. Could there be somewhere inside where the VIN is hidden?

What is the proper procedure for removing the stripe from aluminum? Has anyone had any success applying new vinyl over the old?
