Re: [tabtrailers] Jockey Wheel Directions Step by Step

Melissa, I think you have it right, in that it will become a lot clearer to you when you see it in person. The jockey wheel on the T@B is very different from many other tongue wheels I've seen, but is very useful and reliable IF you understand it and take the precautions mentioned in the Jockey Wheel Basics pdf file. Print it out and have it on hand when you look at it in person.

You also might try reading this explanation while looking at the file photos.  The two main things about it is the side lever which clamps the entire assembly in place. When the weight of the tongue is on the jockey wheel, make sure the clamp always stays tightened. The top crank handle raises and lowers the wheel--lower the wheel to raise the tongue. Once it is in position over the hitch ball, raise the wheel to lower the hitch onto the ball. When it is completely on the ball, then crank the wheel up until the lower assembly is in the notches in the upper assembly. Then, while holding the assembly with one hand, loosen the clamp lever and raise the entire assembly to its travel position, as shown in the photo. Use the bungee cord as shown, making sure it is stretched with no sag in it, and tighten the side clamp.

When you get to your destination, then reverse the procedure, being sure to physically lower the entire assembly to a position a few inches off the ground and reclamp it snugly. If you don't do this first, but instead start lowering the wheel from the travel position, you are very likely going to completely crank the wheel down and out of the upper assembly.

Depending on where you live, maybe you can get one of our members to show you, which would make it so much easier. After learning it, let me know where I can improve the instructions.

Subject: [tabtrailers] Jockey Wheel Directions Step by Step

Hello! I have searched the messages and files for step by step directions on how to both raise and lower the Jockey Wheel with no luck. If such a file exists can somebody please post the link? I read the Jockey Wheel basics PDF and was totally confused. It may be because my T@B hasnt arrived yet and all this will become crystal clear once I see it? I want to have a printout on hand. Those levers and cranks are intimidating looking. My boat trailers and popups never had anything like that. I have already added a bungee cord to my list of things I need.

Thanks!

Melissa
