Right on Phil.
I bought my Eames lounge chair in the early 60's, (it is now on its second
set of cushions) along with subsequent furniture purchases over the
following two decades or so.
Guests would come over and say, "I don't like modern, but I like that !"
I have been living with this class of furniture and accessories for over 50
years, and still use and enjoy it. Unlike typical furniture, these pieces
have soared in value, too.
My wife was worried as to the future of these "museum pieces' when we are
gone. She cautioned our son, "Don't call Good Will, call a Mid Century Modem
auction house."
He replied, "Don't worry, I like this furniture (and now, so does his
bride!).
Now, I find myself (a semi-retired cabinetmaker) making a limited number of
reproductions of no longer in production mid century pieces. Dowel leg
planter stands and Thin Edge beds. My versions are, in all modesty, better
made than the originals, (taking advantage of applicable newer techniques)
but maintaining the lines of the original designs.
